Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
