Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
