Palestinian-American Youth Freed After Nine-Month Period in Israeli Custody

An American-Palestinian adolescent after completing nine months in imprisonment by Israel without charge was released.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 during his detention this past winter throughout the West Bank territory, where he was visiting from his Florida home accused of stone-throwing at Jewish settlers, which he previously denied.

American diplomatic officials said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.

Currently aged sixteen, needed medical care for treatment immediately after release, family members reported.

According to them, he appears showing signs of malnutrition, while battling health issues acquired while detained.

Via family representatives, the youth's uncle conveyed their "tremendous relief".

Zeyad Kadur said the family had been "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" over the last nine months.

"Right now, we are focused on getting Mohammed prompt healthcare necessary for his recovery after being subjected to mistreatment by authorities and cruel circumstances throughout his detention."

The state department stated they would maintain to provide consular support for the Ibrahim family.

Several congressional representatives submitted a formal letter to US authorities and the White House, urging greater action for his freedom.

Mr Ibrahim, with four children operating an ice cream shop from Florida, had earlier stated Mohammed acknowledged allegations to throwing stones because the soldiers beat him.

The father hadn't visited or communicated with his son since the arrest, and only heard regarding the treatment in detention through court documents.

Mohammed was held absent formal charges within Ofer penitentiary on the West Bank.

Additionally housing adult prisoners, including individuals found guilty of serious terrorism offences and homicide.

There are around 350 Palestinian minors in security custody currently imprisoned in Israel, according to the Israeli Prison Service.

After the teenager's freedom, the uncle stated the family would also continue fighting seeking justice for their relative Sayfollah Musallet.
