Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
